Everything You Need to Know to Charter a Sailboat for a Sailing Vacation
Wouldn’t it be grand to spend some time out on the water? Finally, you don’t need to own a boat or even have a friend who does. You can charter a sailboat and spend time out on the vast ocean, or have the sailboat take you to a far off destination. There’s so much to love about this vacation idea, the next steps for you is to learn all you can about it.
Everything You Need to Know to Charter a Sailboat for a Sailing Vacation
#1 Sailboat or catamaran? Before we go any further, it’s important to point out that many times people say “charter a sailboat” but what they really mean is “catamaran”. A catamaran is a boat with two hulls, whereas a sailboat has one. A catamaran is safer and smoother, plus offers much more deck space. Esmeralda is a catamaran boat that provides a unique sailing experience in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. The boat is landed in San Juan del Sur, Rivas, a town on Nicaragua’s southwest coast. You can call it a sailboat if you want, but be sure to know the difference when you’re booking so you select the correct option.
#2 Decide how long you’d like to go out on the boat. You have two options, a mid day or a full day. This needs to be decided before anything else, because if you only have the budget or time for a mid day, some destinations won’t be feasible. A mid day is four hours, while a full day is eight.
#3 Choose your destination. Once you know how long you will charter a sailboat for, you can select your destination. Your options with Esmeralda include a four hour boat trip with time spent on Playa Blanca or Brasilito Beach, or a full day excursion to Bolaños Island, Playa Brasilito, Playa Trébol, Isla Anciana, Playa Redonda, and Gigante. With so many gorgeous beaches and islands to choose from, selecting your destination may very well be the most difficult aspect of this whole experience!
#4 Consider what is included and additional services. All that is left to do now is think about your on-boat experience. When you book Esmeralda, most of what you’ll need for the day is included in your package. This includes games, balls, towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, fishing gear, and binoculars. We do offer quite a few additional add ons to make the day extra special. This includes things like a DJ on board, Shiatsu massage, yoga on the beach, yoga on the beach, ceviche, and much more. In fact, we want to make your day extra special so we can work with you to create a custom package that includes anything you want and need.
#5 Pack what you need for a spectacular day. You’ve chosen everything so we know everything we need to make your day special. All that is left is to prepare yourself for fun in the sun! First-time catamaran charterers are often unaware that they will not be able to wear their street shoes onboard the boat. This is because the decks are easily marked and damaged by high heels, dark-soled shoes, and dirt carried onboard from land. For those who prefer to wear shoes, you could buy a new pair of flat, pale-soled shoes strictly for use onboard. You’ll also want to pack sunscreen, a bathing suit, cool linen or cotton clothes, and a light jacket for the way back.
